How to Use Leaf Compost
There are 4 easy ways to use Hsu Leaf Compost:
1. Garden Soil Enhancement
For New Beds, we recommend 2-4" of certified compost to be tilled into the soil in the fall or spring
For Maintenance of Existing Beds, we recommend an annual top-dressing of 1/8" to 1/2" certified compost
2. Lawn Top Dressing
For New Lawns, after seeding, apply a thin layer, about 1/4", of a certified compost as top-dressing to help maintain consistent moisture for seed germination
For Existing Lawns, we recommend applying about 1/4" of certified compost, both in spring and fall, to help rejuvenate an existing lawn. For best results, top-dress after aerating the turf and water immediately after compost application.
3. Landscape Mulch
Hsu Leaf Compost can be applied around perennials, trees or shrubs as needed or at a rate of 2"" or 3" annually to ensure proper moisture retention
4. Compost Tea
Adding 2 heaping tablespoons of Hsu Leaf Compost per 1/2 gallon of water, stir well and water plants as usual. You may let the mixture stand to ensure proper absorption and filet out compost residuals, if desired.
